If you’re a fan of music, there’s a good chance you’ve heard the name Wendy Moten. She is a famed backup singer who has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, and Tim McGraw.
During a recent trip to Nashville to record, Wendy agreed to come out of retirement to sing background for one of Ella Jayne’s songs “Break It”. Ella Jayne was honored to work with her and couldn’t believe she wanted to harmonize with her song. “She didn’t want to sing backup anymore, but after she heard my song, she wanted to do it!” During their time together at Blackbird, Ella had the chance to get to know Wendy a little better and hear her sing. “She’s a great singer and person and her harmony adds a really nice touch to the song! The entire time, she was super sweet and supportive and given the chance, I would definitely work with her again,” Ella said.
About Wendy Moten
Wendy is a multi-talented and versatile vocalist, bringing soul and authenticity to each track. She also was the runner-up on the show “The Voice” in season 21 where she worked with her coach Blake to make it to the finals. Recently turning 57, Wendy made show history as the oldest contestant to ever make it this far. With every coach wanting her after she stunned them with her voice, they all truly believe she could be a solo artist if she wanted to.
Memphis-born artist Wendy Moten launched her career as a pop/R&B artist before returning to Nashville, TN. The multi-talented Memphis-born performer launched her career with a self-titled 1992 EMI album that included the ballad “Come In Out Of The Rain,” which reached the Top 5 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart and later hit the Top Ten on the UK singles chart.
“Moten has been a background singer for the past three decades for a long list of artists, including Kenny Rogers, Michael McDonald, and John Oates. She toured with Julio Iglesias for 15 years, as well as country stars such as Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and Martina McBride. She has worked with Vince Gill since 2016, and two years ago, she was invited to join the legendary Nashville Western swing band the Time Jumpers,” according to the Washington Post. She also was the first contestant to encounter a nasty fall on stage, but returned the next week with casts on both arms and continued to wow the judges and crowd. Weeks later when she showed up to the studio to record with Ella Jayne, she still had one of the casts on and was able to laugh about what happened to her as she shared her experience.
The song, Break It, is set to be released in the Summer of 2022 and will be available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music under Ella Jayne’s profile.
