The First Time Ella Jayne Sang In Public

Ella Jayne Sings For The First Time In Public at The Ready Room in St. Louis

Ella Jayne seems to have been born a singer.

When she was five, Ella Jayne’s parents got a call from her art teacher about her singing in class. After apologizing for Ella Jayne’s “disruption” the teacher stopped them right there and informed them that they needed to get Ella Jayne into voice lessons. That she had potential.

Ella Jayne then began voice lessons alongside the piano. Unfortunately, she discovered that art with paint and pencils wasn’t her forte.

Then, with enough practice, Ella Jayne was ready to sing in public.

Ella Jayne Sings At The Ready Room

Ella Jayne first sang in public when she was eight years old at a place called The Ready Room.

“It was kind of a train wreck, to be honest,” she admits. “All my family came out to see me, first time, and I was singing Rolling in the Deep by Adele and forgot that there was a second chorus. Not trying to blame things on anyone, but if you singer messes up, you have to back them up. The band playing didn’t do that for me. I forgot the lyrics and said, “I forgot the lyrics” on stage into the mike. Obviously, I sing it now and am fine.”

The band she was in was a group called 3 Normal People and Josh, brought together by their lessons at Mozingo Music. “This wasn’t a competition,” Ella remembers. “It was fun and all but I always had a different instructor which was weird and remember one time, think his name was Mark, told us no was going to do the song The Chain by Fleetwood Mac and a girl did it right before! The names of the bands were The First-Class Pilots and Sub-Zero Summer. But I haven’t sang with them in three years.”

Ella Jayne sang four songs total, but Rolling in the Deep is the one that stood out to her the most.

“I Felt Like I Was Famous”

“I like singing with Don and Steven. They’re professionals and know what they’re doing. I am grateful that I got to do that experience because then I wouldn’t know who AC/DC is.” Ella Jayne was the youngest there to perform, with the oldest being seventeen.

“The event was just everyone coming out to sing so their families can see what they’ve learned.” The event was open to the public and Ella Jayne estimates that there were maybe 70 people total.

While it wasn’t a large event by any means, it was a lot to her at that age. “I wasn’t nervous at all. Just excited. After singing in front of a crowd for the first time I felt like I was so famous,” she laughs. “Like everyone in the world knew who I was even though it was only like 4 people. It was a big confidence boost.”

Grateful for the experience, Ella Jayne has learned a lot since her debut and continues to sing at events like local talent shows and nationally televised events.
