Ella Jayne is no stranger to talent shows and singing competitions.
In late May and early June 2021, Ella Jayne participated in the Deerfield Voice Talent Show, a three-week competition of three rounds.
Ella Jayne sang her licensed original song “Old Piano”, for an automatic 5 points, and the ever-popular people-pleaser “Rolling in the Deep.” Unfortunately, because she did not write “Old Piano” herself, the automatic points were not awarded.
But Ella Jayne didn’t let that get her down! She asked herself, “What do people like?” and brought Steven in to accompany her on the guitar as she sang “Me and Bobby McGee” by Janice Joplin. In fact, she prefers to sing to a live band. In the case of mistakes, a live band can help cover them and overall are less stressful than singing to a pre-recorded track.
Ella Jayne is currently in the process of writing a song called “Wax”, which is about someone trying to burn you down like wax. She has another licensed song, “Fly,” but didn’t sing it during the competition.
She didn’t see anyone in the first round. Some competitors didn’t show and Ella was the first to go on.
She won the People’s Choice Awards in the finals on June 11.
