We all have something or someone we are inspired by. For Ella Jayne, the music of her everyday life—and those heard on others’ recommendations—inspires her to reach new heights and find her unique style. From Billie Eilish to Janice Joplin, there have been many influences, but Ella Jayne wants to be herself.
“I’d like to be myself, but someone who has influenced me as a singer would probably be Janice Joplin. Janice Joplin inspires me.” Ella Jayne said in an interview. “I don’t listen to her music; I don’t love the songs, but I definitely do like the way she sings. Her style.”
She notes that she was instructed not to sing as hard as Janice Joplin in her performances. “They’re like, ‘Oh, it can give you vocal nodes, and you’ll never be able to sing again.’ So…”
And Ella Jayne does have a big voice! So, for some people singing as big as she does, they probably would be pushing it. But Ella Jayne doesn’t have to push it.
Alongside Janice Joplin, Ella Jayne very much likes the sound of Panic! At the Disco.
Despite her love for Billie Eilish, Ella Jayne chose not to emulate her in her art. “It wouldn’t be Billie Eilish because our voices are not the same. It wouldn’t work, honestly. I love her voice and everything, but it wouldn’t work. It would sound like a train wreck,” she laughs. “It’s not that either one of our voices are bad; it just wouldn’t work.” But Ella Jayne notes that if she had to pick someone to emulate, it would be Kelly Clarkson for her robust and cool voice.
The saddest song Ella Jayne has probably heard is “Too Good At Goodbyes” by Sam Smith. “that was the song that was playing in my earbuds whenever I found out my grandma died. That is why I don’t like that song. It is a good song, though.”
Sad or not, Ella Jayne will sing anything, including the ingredients on the shampoo bottle!
When asked if she could open for anybody, who would it be, she replied without hesitation, Camila Cabello. However, when asked who she would duet with, she chooses her dad. “On stage, we do Shallow together [by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga].”
